WHAT'S UP WITH GAS STOVES?*

Pot on Gas Burner

From journalist Michael Taylor, who recently took his own alarming measurement of gas stove emissions (>read it in full here):

"In 1992, the EPA analyzed results from dozens of studies in the first meta-analysis on the topic [statistical review of results from multiple studies]. They concluded that the nitrogen dioxide (NO2) produced by a typical gas stove was enough to increase a child’s risk of asthma by 20%."

"In 2013, [another] meta-analysis found, 'Children living in a home with gas cooking have a 42% increased risk of having current asthma.'”

Fast forward to 2023 and discover that in 9 states with available data, "12.7% (95% CI = 6.3–19.3%) of current childhood asthma in the US is attributable to gas stove use" !

So for kids' sake and their healthy indoor air, now you're not cookin' with gas!

*Gruenwald et al. 2023 report gas stoves are prevalent in 35% of American households.
(P.S. If you have one, no one is coming to take it away from you, though the federal gov't is considering incentives for replacing them)
